2016 - State Cross Country Results

2015

Dear all,

Well it was great to see Coburg athletes performing at last Saturday's State Cross Country Championships at Westerfolds Park. Coburg was well represented with 15 athletes in age groups ranging from Under 7s through to U 13s.

The weather was fine but the course (and venue) was pretty muddy. Several athletes returned after their events with muddy faces (and very muddy tops...good luck parents in getting them clean). The course was also fairly hard with plenty of hills to challenge the athletes.

Our U7 representative was Lily-Bella, who bravely overcame a fall and some jostling to finish strongly. Great effort! In the U8 girls, Saskia and Madeleine coped well with the so-called "Heartbreak Hill" and showed strength in finishing strongly up to the finish line. Amelia coped well with 1.5km course in the U9 girls competition, again showing determination. We had 3 athletes representing Coburg in the U 10 girls event, which constituted a team. Amazing effort by Niamh, Amira and Georgia with Niamh leading the charge followed by Amira and Georgia. 6th position in the teams was a great result. Our U11 boys were definitely keen, with 4 athletes competing. Jannik, Javier, Samuel and Declan did themselves and Coburg proud, also finishing in 6th position as a team. Lachlan started strongly in the U12 boys event and kept up the momentum with a great result. Lara looked a bit nervous when she found out the course was quite hard, but attacked the course and finished strongly. Finally, we had Yasmin and Thomas competing in the combined U13 boys/girls 3km event with a great result for both. Highlight of the day was Thomas finishing 7th as well as the awesome effort by all athletes in muddy and difficult conditions. Well done to all the athletes. The final results can be accessed via the link below. Thanks also to Tara Attard who shared the team manager role, and to Kathleen Marsh who is always there to help out. In addition I would like to thank all the parents - all athletes were ready to go and offers of help were abundant. Well done everyone!!!
Cheers,
