WHAT HAPPENS ON COMPETITION DAYS?
Each competition day, the centre works on a specific program, one of three, each featuring a set combination of events for each age group. Each program will be run five times for the season, with 15 competition days scheduled in each season. See the weekly program menu tab. Originally there were 4 programs held over 16 weeks, then we trialled 5 programs held 3 times each but have settled for the combination of 3 programs, 5 times each which seems to give a better balance for all age groups.
On Saturday mornings the timing is…
- Between 7:00-7.30am, people from the setup club arrive to get the equipment needed for the day out of the bunker and set it up around the arena. It should all be in place by 8:15am. (Hurdles are not always scheduled so may not be necessary).
- From 8.00am Athletes and parents should arrive at the track, to be ready for the start of competition. In fact, athletes should be on the track warming up!!
- By 8.15am, Officials should be in place at this time. The track announcer will call events, ready for a start at 8:30am SHARP.
- The On Track athletes are called during the morning, and sent to the appropriate area, during the program. Parents of these children are encouraged to join them and assist.
- We aim to finish each program by 12:00pm, after which members of the pack up crew are required to put away the equipment, bins should be moved to the gate, and toilets are to be cleaned.
- In previous seasons, there were some competition days where the Walk events would commence at 8:00am. These athletes needed to be at the track warming up well before this start time. Now that we have our new timing system, we should be able to schedule walks into the morning program while sprint events are being run. Everything works well if parents assist us to manage all these activities.
Sunday competitions begin at 10:00am.
Friday night competitions commence at 6:00pm.
